Cast — Richard Byrne (Troilus)

 
 

Richard Byrne has sung roles with some of America's leading opera companies. His New York City Opera debut was in 1988; since then he has appeared there in over 250 performances of twenty-eight roles. He began his association with the Metropolitan Opera in 1992 and has been involved in twelve productions there since then. He has also sung with Santa Fe Opera, San Diego Opera, Dallas Opera, the Opera Theater of Saint Louis and many other companies. His European debut was as Gabriel von Eisenstein with L'Opéra de Nice in 1997; since then he has sung with the Le Grande Théâtre de Genève , Opéra de Marseille , Theâtre du Capitôle in Toulouse, Deutsche Oper am Rhein and with the Kammeroper in Vienna.

He has performed in concert with the London Philharmonic under the baton of Sir Colin Davis and with the New York Philharmonic in their Young People's Concerts. He has also recorded the role of Ulrich Eisslinger on the London/Decca recording of "Die Meistersinger von Nürnberg" conducted by Sir Georg Solti, and a critically-acclaimed disc of Massenet songs on Opus Records. He has performed in recital at New York's Weill Recital Hall at Carnegie Hall, and in Geneva, Marseille, Toulouse, Düsseldorf, and Vienna.

Mr. Byrne's engagements last season included the title role in "Les Contes d'Hoffman" with San Francisco Lyric Opera and the role of the Stage Manager in the West Coast premiere of Ned Rorem's "Our Town" with Festival Opera in Walnut Creek, CA.
